Supervisors May Vote To Place Amendments To The County Charter On The November Ballot

During Tuesday’s meeting the Shasta County Board of Supervisors will decide whether to alter a couple of county charter amendments and place them on the ballot. In 2024 voters approved creation of a county charter, including a process for how to fill a vacancy on the Board of Supervisors. The new amendment would expand the process to include any elected department head. The vacancy would be filled in the next scheduled election, unless that’s more than a year away, in which case the board would appoint someone with a 4/5ths vote. The other ballot item would correct the previously approved eminent domain restriction ordinance, which mistakenly included language intended for the vacancy-filling ordinance. If the board approves, both items will go on November’s ballot.
