The Shasta County Board of Supervisors is holding another closed session meeting Tuesday to discuss a lawsuit filed against a measure that seeks to change how elections are run. The measure calls for hand-counted elections, to be completed in a single day, with limited exceptions for mail-in ballots, and for a photo ID requirement. It’s believed that the measure would never survive a court challenge. A Shasta County Judge made a preliminary ruling last week that the measure cannot appear on the ballot because it contains provisions that would violate state elections laws. The judge also ruled that the person who filed the petition, known as “Jane Doe”, must reveal her identity. The Board of Supervisors previously voted to take no position on the court action.
