Tuesday’s Supervisors Will Meeting Will Include Presentation On Proposed Medical School

Tuesday the Shasta County Board of Supervisors will receive a presentation about the ongoing quest for a medical school in Shasta County. Last year consultant Chriss Street was given a $40,000 contract to study the local shortage of physicians and investigate the feasibility of establishing a local medical school. A prior survey by Shasta County Health and Human Services pointed to the existence of a doctor shortage and suggested various reasons, including the local political climate. The costs of a medical school are enormous and Street’s recommendations included seeking huge grants from state and federal government sources. A lawsuit was filed alleging that the work could have been done better and cheaper by county staff. Tuesday’s presentation about the possibility of a local medical school will be made by Simpson University President Norman Hall.
