Two Tire Recycling Events Planned For Late August In Shasta County

There are two opportunities next weekend for Shasta County residents to get rid of old tires. The Shasta County Department of Resource Management has collected more than 7,000 used tires so far this year. The old tires will be put to good use to make running tracks, synthetic turf, accessibility ramps, rubberized asphalt, landscape covering, playground surfaces, roofing and more. Up to 9 tires are accepted at no cost or up to 20 with an authorization letter, available by calling 225-5789. No large truck tires, equipment tires or off road tires, but tires on rims will be accepted. One collection will be done Saturday (8/26) at Redding Christian School on Old 44 Drive in Palo Cedro and the other will be Sunday at the American Legion Post on Chestnut Street in Cottonwood. Both will be held from 9AM to 2PM, and they’re open to all Shasta County residents. Illegally dumped tires can be reported at 866-618-7274.
