Additional cooling centers have been opened to provide relief for anyone who has a hard time with the extreme heat. Air conditioned spaces open to the public include the St James Lutheran Church on Shasta View Drive between Noon and 8PM, the Redding Recreation Teen Center in Caldwell Park between 2PM and 6PM, the Shasta Lake Visitors Center on Median Avenue from Noon to 8PM and the Cottonwood Community Center on Gas Point Road from Noon to 8PM. There’s also the Mount Shasta Mall and all three Shasta County Libraries.In Tehama County locations include libraries in Red Bluff and Corning, the Path Shelter on Lay Avenue in Red Bluff and the Red Bluff Community Center on South Jackson Street. It’s important to avoid heat stroke by drinking plenty of water, wearing light clothing, scheduling outdoor activities carefully and moving at a healthy pace. Some signs of heat stroke include altered mental state, red hot dry skin, rapid pulse, throbbing headache and confusion or unconsciousness.
