Update: Amtrak Employee Injured During Officer Involved Shooting On Christmas Morning

Some details have come up concerning the early Christmas morning fatal officer involved shooting in Mount Shasta City. The department has said that the shooting occurred on an Amtrak train, and that a civilian bystander was injured. According to an Amtrak memo acquired by KRCR, the injured civilian is an Amtrak employee. The dead person had been agitated and was seen as a threat by Amtrak staff, so they requested help from Mount Shasta Police. The train stopped and the officer came aboard. When he contacted the person an altercation broke out and the officer fired the fatal shots. The Amtrak employee is apparently recovering after suffering non-life-threatening wounds from the officer’s errant shots. The State Attorney General’s Office is investigating the incident, as required by state law for any fatal officer involved shooting if the suspect was unarmed.
