A man who was killed in a head-on collision near Shingletown over the weekend has been identified by the Shasta County Coroners Office as 63-year-old Phillip Mathew Detrant of Shingletown. Just before 6 O’clock Saturday evening, Detrant was driving a 2018 Honda Accord eastbound on Highway 44 about a half-mile west of Inwood Road. The CHP says he veered across the double yellow center line into the opposing lane, then steered to the right to return to his lane but the driver’s side of his car was struck by a westbound Toyota Tacoma pickup driven by Chan Saechao of Oakland, who was carrying three passengers, including 2 from Redding. All four women in the pickup sustained minor to moderate injuries, but Detrant was declared dead at the scene. The CHP says drugs or alcohol were not involved.
