Update: Driver Killed In Early Morning Crash Was Wanted In Madera County

The Shasta County Sheriff’s Department says they had been chasing a man who died in a crash very early Wednesday morning on Old Oregon Trail. At 12:30AM a deputy saw an Oldsmobile going onto Northbound Interstate 5 from Pine Grove with expired registration tags. The olds sped away as the deputies turned around and tried to catch up. They saw the car take the wonderland exit and run the stop sign, heading east on Old Oregon Trail. The Olds hit a mailbox cluster and an embankment near Grande Vista Lane and the 46-year-old driver was trapped in the car. He was extricated, and died after arriving at Mercy Hospital. In the Oldsmobile deputies found a number of apparently stolen catalytic convertors. The driver had 4 warrants from Madera County with total bail of a Million Dollars. His identity has still not been released.
