Update: Man Pulls Gun On Officers Before Being Fatally Shot In Weed

Details have been released about a fatal officer involved shooting in Weed. Saturday evening a Weed Police Officer pulled over a car traveling on Northbound Interstate 5 for excessive window tint, an unsafe lane change and other violations. They stopped on the North Weed Offramp and after talking to the driver, the officer requested a K9 to do a drug sniff. A Mount Shasta Police Officer responded, the dog indicated positively, and the car was searched. The Weed Officer reported finding a substantial quantity of Methamphetamine hidden in a stereo speaker box. The driver was sitting in front of the Weed Police vehicle during the search, and when he was approached he reportedly pulled out a gun and pointed it at the officer. Both officers then fired their guns and struck the man. He was transported to Mercy Mount Shasta, where he later died. One of the officers sustained a minor injury when he fell during the incident. Both officers are on administrative leave. The CHP is conducting the investigation. The name of the dead man will be released after his family is notified.
