Update: Measure B Will Appear On June Ballot After Judge’s Ruling

A Shasta County judge has decided to allow a voter initiative on the ballot that would change election rules in the county charter. On Thursday Judge Ben Hanna ruled that Measure B may be included on the ballot for June 2nd. A legal challenge was brought by a private citizen who said it should be invalidated because it would not stand up to post-election court challenges and is therefore a waste of taxpayer resources. There was also an allegation that the signatures were gathered improperly because Measure B is an amendment to the county charter and not an ordinance. The restrictive changes proposed by the measure are in violation of state law and the decision by Judge Hanna by no means represents an endorsement of the measure’s legality.
