Update: Parole Board Denies Early Release Of Elderly Child Sexual Predator

During a hearing on Friday the State Parole Board denied release for convicted child sexual predator 86-year-old Robert Barber. He sexually assaulted countless young victims hundreds of times in Shasta County for decades and was sentenced to over 50 years in prison. He became eligible for release under California’s “Elder Parole Program”. The board said they considered letters from the community and testimony from victims in making their decision, as well as the continued efforts of Kelly Kafel. She prosecuted Barber in 2000 and has worked to keep him behind bars. It’s not known yet when parole will be reconsidered, but the board said he will not be eligible until he’s at least 90-years-old.
