After nearly a week of administrative leave, Redding Police Chief Brian Barner has been reinstated according to a Facebook post by Mayor Mike Litau. The reinstatement comes on the heels of an abrupt and unexplained announcement of Barner’s leave from the Interim City Manager Kari Kibler on December 30th, leaving the City Council and the public in the dark as to the reason. But according to KRCR, the a allegations include authorizing the use of a police department trailer for personal use, granting off-the-books time off to officers, purchasing personal gifts for staff without proper authority and authorizing raffle prize donations involving department weapons and SWAT equipment. Captain Brian Cole was named Acting Chief of Police during Barner’s leave.
