Update: Slide Forces Closure Of Highway 299 Ahead Of Work To Remove Large Boulders

Caltrans may have to start early on a project to clear dangerous boulders from above Highway 299 in Eastern Shasta County. Delays of up to an hour-and-a-half are expected a little west of Fall River Mills starting Monday, and continuing through the second week of June. However, some of the debris slid onto the roadway early Friday morning and Caltrans said they don’t want their workers clearing the road below the slide while it’s dark, so the highway was ordered closed in both directions on the stretch of Highway 299 known as the “Pit One Grade”. There’s no reasonable detour around the slide area. Updates can be found on the Caltrans “Quickmap” site and app.
