A bond measure will appear on the November ballot to provide $129 Million to Shasta College to expand and remodel facilities through capital projects and upgrades. Most of the buildings at the main campus are close to 60 years old. A majority of the work will be done by local contractors, and the college will apply for matching funds from the state. Projects will include a new agriculture classroom, expanded automotive, diesel and welding programs, a new extension in Corning and increased workforce training. College officials stress that property taxes in the district will not increase. The old 2002 Measure “A” bond is expiring and the new measure will just extend the terms. The cost is $7.76 annually per $100,000 of assessed value. The bond funds can’t be used for salaries or pensions. It’ll also remain local and cannot be taken by the state.
