Shasta County residents can get rid of old tires for free on Saturday (9/12) in Cottonwood. When left alone, tires leach toxic chemicals into the soil and water and become breeding grounds for mosquitoes and rodents. The old tires are put to good use to make a variety of products. Up to 9 tires are accepted per vehicle, or up to 20 with an authorization letter, available from the Shasta County Department of Resource Management at (530) 225-5789 or recycle@shastacounty.gov. No large truck tires, equipment tires, off road tires, or tires from tire businesses accepted. Tires on rims are fine. The collection will be done Saturday from 9AM to 2PM at West Valley High School on Happy Valley Road. It’s open to all Shasta County residents.
