Woman Who Disrupted Board Of Supervisors Meeting Will Serve Jail Sentence

Just days after her husband was arrested for disrupting a Shasta County Board of Supervisors Meeting Jennifer O’Connell Nowain returned to Shasta County Superior Court for judgement and sentencing after she was arrested for disrupting meeting in November of 2024. The Shasta County District Attorney’s Office had recommended informal probation, 30 days of community service, and standard fines for Nowain, and asked that she should follow decorum rules and avoid future disruptions However, Nowain’s defense attorney said that while the recommendation is fair, O’Connell Nowain does not believe that she can comply with the terms of probation. As a result, the judge decided that since she could not agree to the terms of probation, she would receive the maximum 180-day sentence in the Shasta County Jail. The sentencing for O’Connell Nowain was postponed to January 28th to allow time for her to address medical needs before she is remanded into the custody of the Shasta County Jail. Nowain has stated that she is looking forward to going to jail, and will use the time to document her experience.
