Deputies Credit Traffic Stops With Recent Illegal Cannabis Seizures

The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Department says there are 2,000 illegal Cannabis cultivation sites in the county, many of them in the Mount Shasta Vista Subdivision. With the outdoor harvest season concluding, a number of large shipments heading out of the area have been intercepted over the past couple of weeks. A Penske rental box truck was stopped for a lighting violation in the Grenada area. Deputies smelled a strong odor of Marijuana so they searched and discovered 62 trash bags stuffed with Pot, with a weight of more than 1,400 pounds. Thibault Charvy of Willits was arrested. A few days before that a rented Home Depot box truck with expired registration was stopped in the Mount Shasta area driven by Ginghai Tan of San Lorenzo. He told deputies he was driving to Seattle and acknowledged that he was carrying an illegal load. In the back of the truck deputies found 28 boxes containing 2,184 juvenile Marijuana plants. Siskiyou County officials say traffic stops are their primary tool for interrupting their large local Cannabis industry.
