A 23-year-old Redding woman has been sentenced for a crash that killed her boyfriend four years ago. On October 16th of 2021, Macie Alexandra Bacon was behind the wheel, her boyfriend 22-year-old Philip Monroe Pedro the 4th was the front seat passenger, and Bacon’s sister and sister’s boyfriend were in the back seat. They were on Interstate 5 south of Hooker Creek Road when the car left the pavement and crashed, killing Pedro. Bacon, her sister, and her sister’s boyfriend all claimed that Pedro had grabbed the steering wheel and forced the car off the road. Bacon’s blood alcohol level was .081, which is just barely over the legal limit. Originally charged with multiple felonies, including gross vehicular manslaughter, Bacon pled to felony DUI causing injury. Her sentence is 240 days in Tehama County jail with a 2 year state prison sentence suspended on condition of 4 years probation.
